Bob lind “lost” songs

YOU'RE GOOD FOR ME
Love you like the sky's design
That rolls and changes all the time
Diamond daydreams glide and shine
And lead me deep inside my mind
Where you can't go
But still, I know

[Chorus]
You're good for me. You're good for me.
And I wish that I could make you see
That all the things you want for me
Are just the things I want to be
In Time.

Love you like the autumn sun
Sometimes here and sometimes gone
The gypsy paints my fortune on
The garden wall.
But soon it all will fall to make you see

[Chorus]

Love you like the Prince of Dreams
Who only hints at what he means
And carries thoughts and changing scenes
Along the narrow space between
Tomorrow and before
And leaves them at your door.

[Chorus]

SALTY BLUE
Four o'clock the doors are locked
And all my friends are gone
My silver strings will spin and ring,
Long into the dawn.
I can't stop now.
Salty Blue. I'm blaming you.

Everyone was tired or they had someplace to be
No one seemed to want to keep the party going but me
So here I am
Shining through Salty Blue.
THE SEA WILL TELL ME WHO I AM
Some empty day, I'll walk the sand.
The sea will tell me who I am.
I've been a long time waiting
On downtown sidewalks for love.
I've had my manhood taken
By mannequins with long white gloves.

They built a church; they built a bank.
The streets are full, my mind is blank.
I could believe in giving, but I don't have a thing to take away.
I've heard a million vioices, but still I don't have anything to say.

This other mind, nobody knows.
I've gone as deep as words can go.
I've been a long time feeling
The world keep winding along.
I've been to all those places
Where all those faces belong...
Except for mine.

Some empty day, I'll walk the sand
The sea will tell me who I am.

TRACY'S SONG

The first time I saw you, I saw you with him.
I asked about what kind of scene you were in.
You just shrugged your shoulders and grinned at your friend.
I was so glad when he left without you,
And you know that I knew that you knew.

So I played my music and listened to you
As you spoke of your problem as if it was new,
To be hung up on someone who doesn't love you.
I knew exactly just what I could to,
And you know that I know that you knew.

Everybody's living, learning the hard way, baby.
Can't you see that I've been there before.
Look at me from where you are, I;m not far away, Baby.
You've never been so bewildered, so blue
And you know that I know that you know.

Looking back, I remember how you had me locked up inside then.
And if I gave you have a chance, you say you'd like to try again.
But all I've got to do to pity you is think about the friends you knew.
Aint' it a drag, they way they always had to cover up for you.

And We'll All Go Down Together,
When it's time to go.
It only matters whether
We learn from what we know.

BRANCH OF DEAD LEAVES

Sweet Heart of the afternoon where will you be tomorrow?
You’ve got so much love inside your self with too much pride to borrow
Why can’t you see your only free to walk around your prison? Dragging your branch of dead leaves. Dragging your branch of Dead leaves….

Those that turn their backs on you are easily forgiven. Obligation scares you . Your hung up on stringless living. Why cant you see your only free to walk around your prison. Dragging your branch of dead leaves. Dragging your branch of dead leaves.

....stringless living....

Bob, please consider doing even just acoustic guitar & vocal demos of some of these......many of us, I'm sure, would gladly buy CDs of these. Life is short. :D

Well here is another one of those wonderful Bob Lind songs that I dont remember all the words to. Perhaps Dale Ann remembers. Bob says this is the closest to a children's song he has written in the late 60's. Something like:

Pals

When I am walking down the street Im glad Ive got my feet and
When I am sitting in a chair Im glad Ive got my Seat

I glad Ive got my friends (pals)

When you spill your Pepsi you wouldnt be so bad.....

Anyone Remember it correctly? A beautiful song

Interesting, poignant, amazing - how an artist changes things ever so slightly from one performance to another. Here's how Bob did it on another occasion:

Branch of Dead Leaves

Angel of the afternoon, where will you be tomorrow?
There's nothing in your pocket, you've got too much pride to borrow.
Too much in love with everything to tell the world your sorrow.
Helpless, but free, with life inside you.
Carrying your branch of dead leaves.

The ones who turn their backs on you are easily forgiven.
And obligation scares you, you're hung up on stingless livin'.
Why can't you see you're only free to walk anound your prison?
You walk alone, ashamed of crying.
Carrying your branch of dead leaves.

I've noticed you sometimes behind your fortresses of laughter.
Sadly thinking distant thoughts of what you're chasing after.
But the saddest kind of slaves are those who do not know their master.
Well, I know you're lost, but you're not crippled.
Take a warning from your branch of dead leaves.

Tomorrow sets its traps for you, be careful how you face it.
If by chance a dream goes by, watch out which way you chase it.
For freedom's such such a lonesome thing when it's just one person that has it.
So when you cross the bridge of midnight,
Look down and see your branch of dead leaves.

Thank you , thank you , Thank you. I knew someone would remember all the words of Branch of Dead Leaves. What a wonderful song. I wish Bob would sing it again. It is great. Thanks for remembering all the words only I could remember a fraction of. Much appreciated. Ed Hackie , Seeker2be

Ed...

Sorry about the typo..."stingless" instead of stringless.

Maybe I should "bee" more careful... but what would you expect from a Bob Lind turkey!

Jeff : How did you have all the words to branch of dead leaves so clearly remembered after all these years? Did you like me (although I lost the tape) record one of Bob's concerts years and years ago? Do you know the "Glad Ive got my pals" (friends) song I mentioned? any others. A tape to share with all of us? I wish I had mine so many treasures. Seeker2be (Ed Hackie

Ed,

YOU'RE the one with the amazing memory.

I recorded Bob's USC free concert many moons ago. Where oh where has that little tape gone? Will look for it. Fortunately, having listened to it so many times, some of the lyrics (as Bob says) stuck to the old brain cells.

Never heard ANY of the other songs you wrote of. Bet they sounded great!

Another remebered song from the tape.

Miss Mary

Have you seen Miss Mary? She's a little girl,
Who just can't seem to get her mind made up about the world.
She don't have no confidence, she don't look so "hard,"
But watch out for that innocence that knocks you off your guard...

Fragile as a baby deer, she's got those dewy eyes,
And you've just never seen someone so bad at telling lies.
She comes on so quiet, serious, and shy,
Makes you think a baby robin's leaning how to fly...

Heaven bless Miss Mary, keep her like she is,
For just a little longer, 'cause time is gonna give her
Something that will change her, from that little girl,
To someone who has got her mind made up about the world...

BTW, how are we old road warriors supposed to get to England!? Extra air in the tires?

Jeff: So funny how gifts give back. I set up the USC concert with Bob Lind, Hoyt Axton, 3 dog night and POCO to raise money for the LA free clinic. I never knew I would get back the words I thought were lost forever of Branch of Dead leaves. I had that song and many others on tape which was stolen by a hitchhiker I picked up on the way to a concert at the Avalon on the way to SF in the late 60's. Thanks again for the song I wish Bob would sing again. So many wonderful songs many have not heard . Songs that move you . Songs whose feeling and memories we can all relate to but couldnt put in the same beautiful order as Bob has done. What a treasure. I hope all these long unsung songs will not stay lost and perhaps somebody somewhere had tape like I had and we can love them again. ED

Hey Windboy,
Welcome to our board. Thanks for your kind words and your input.

I'm as amazed as anyone at the way some of the fans on this forum recall these things. I myself could never have remembered "B of D. L.s" I'm constantly amazed and delighted by the endurance, tenacity and long memories of guys like Lou Chapman, Jeff, Seeker2Be, Susanne and so many others who are like Lind historians.

Stay close to the forum. It's a pleasure to have you with us.

Ed,

One more squeezing from the winepress of Bob's mind (USC concert):

There's Something Inside You

Waiting for the light to change
I started feeling rather strange
Recalling when I thought I knew
The doors that time would take me through
Out along the blue

There's something inside you
Don't let it die
It's so hard to catch it
When it goes by
Above your games
And under your pride
There's something inside of you

Later by the morning sea
I wondered what became of me
Darkness comes and no one knows
Exactly when the sun lets go

There's something inside you
Deep in your mind
And some people touch it
Only two times
Once when they're children
Once when they die
There's something inside of you

I don't have to tell you
Everyone knows
There's something inside of you
Don't let it close
Carry it with you
Catch it and ride
There's something inside of you

Just believe

One wonders what this guy Lind could have done sober!

It Should Have Worked Out

I know somebody who...
Who tried so hard to love you
But he just can't let his love come out.
His heart can feel you do, those little things you do
You gave your love, he knew it should have all worked out.
He knows the good you try to do
Now he can see he's losing you
Day by day
What can he really say?

He knows you've got your reasons
You gave it all you could
He wants to speak to stop you
But he knows it's just no good
He knows the good you try to do
He killed the love inside of you
Day by day
Wore it away

And even as he sees you go
He still can't cry to let you know
He didn't mean to doubt you
It should have worked out.

Another one, lost but not forgotten... Thanks, Bob!
