She Can Get Along lyrics

Post by wtbuser »

Near the end of the song, Bob sings pretty quickly and I've always loved the beat of it. But I've only ever been able to make parts of it and there are no lyrics of it online. Can anyone help me complete the rest of this verse?
If you're gonna be around a girl you better know about her
I can tell you she can get along and if you ever doubt her
Baby she'll be looking like a lady needs lover
but you know she just ... ... cover ... ...
Thanks in advance!

Hope this helps:

If you're gonna be around the girl you better know about her
I can tell you she can get along and don't you ever doubt her
Maybe she'll be lookin like a lady needs a lover
But you know she's just a loner workin easy under cover all alone
Yeah, yeah, wo I know she can get along alright
Deep down I know she can make it by I know.........

I think that's pretty accurate Jeff. I was just scatting/rapping/improvising on that tag. So those lyrics were never written down. But when I hear it today it sounds like:
"If you're gonna be around the girl you better know about her. I can tell you she can get along and don't you ever doubt her. Maybe she'll be looking like a lady ' needs a lover but you know she's just a longer working easy under cover all alone."

Hardly deathless prose. But to my credit, I was rapping before rapping was cool.

Hey, don't knock reggae! Some of it is great. I have two Bob Marley albums.

As for "folk rap", isn't that what Dylan did most of the time? Or was that "talking blues"? Sorry, I may have mentioned before that I am not a fan of Dylan's voice or vocal style.

No G Love & Special Sauce fans here?

Some bands make folk-rap seem kind of natural.

I kind of prefer Why?, but there's more than folk or rap going on in there.

Please, no-one mention Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire"...

Well, strictly speaking that's not rap, because it's sung not spoken, even though much of it is sung in a monotone and the lyrics are quite typical of rap lyrics.

Here's an example of rap done and done well. You would probably have to be Aussie or British to appreciate the narrative though.

Ah, Paul Kelly.

He's swell.

You really want to get into some acoustic roots of rap, though, check out Hank Snow:

From two great folk-rappers:

Woody Guthrie "Talking Union"

Pete Seeger "Talking Dust Bowl Blues"

Hope that teaches me the folly of trying to be coherent when it's past my bedtime.

Woody Guthrie does "Talking Dust Bowl Blues" and Pete Seeger does "Talking Union."

Sorry...guess the old brain cells have worn out!
