One evening last week I stepped out to shout myself a meal. Afterwards I wandered across the road to a large video and music store where I have bought the odd CD or two - finding nothing there that I felt I HAD to have right now, I walked next door to the bookstore which is part of the same establishment (NOT part of a chain) to do a little book-browsing.
It seemed a bit more crowded than usual for a Thursday night, and there seemed to be a queue for something, with a bit of hubbub going on in one corner and staff consuming cups of wine and clustering around someone seated at a table.
Well, to cut a long story short, Paul Kelly was in the store signing copies of his book "How To Make Gravy", which is a quite large tome of song lyrics and anecdotes related to the songs. I don't buy many books, and although this one wasn't cheap it's quite hefty and looks as if it will provide plenty of hours of entertainment, so I decided to splurge, and get the man himself to sign it there and then.
The dedication reads "All the best Bob", and after the title: "How to make lemon meringue pie", since I remarked to Mr Kelly that a sequel was in order to instruct us how to make the dessert following the main course.
It was quite a carnival atmosphere, and I got into a quite animated discussion about music with two ladies in the queue behind me; one was fondling an equally hefty book called "1000 Songs You Must Hear Before You Die", and I was pleased to see that Elusive Butterfly was one of them. (Yes this post is Lind-related!)

When you got that autograph, I bet morning bells were ringing.

Since it was well and truly after dark, no there were no morning bells extant.

Huh - I was sure the phrase "morning bells" popped up in it, but it doesn't. This is the song I was thinking of.

I don't know that song. That's not surprising, the guy has so many songs in his catalogue it's probable that even he doesn't know them all.grant wrote:Huh - I was sure the phrase "morning bells" popped up in it, but it doesn't. This is the song I was thinking of.
"How To Make Gravy" is an entirely different song; the lyrics are here.

"Rock Candy Mountain" is *so* not a recipe for anything but disturb.
"How to Get Depressed" is kind of a recipe, though not for food.
