It's wonderful to have him here - Bob Lind touches down

Post by Martin Roberts »

Although reports that Bob Lind was met at London's Heathrow Airport by hordes of screaming fans in scenes reminiscence of Beatlemania at its height remain unconfirmed Bob has safely arrived in the UK. Most of his day has been spent being interviewed by the great and not so good from the media before he prepares for his gig at The Luminaire in Kilburn, London. My regular news feature Nitz & Bitz on Jack Nitzsche's site at Spectropop has been given over to what I hope is the latest info of his UK trip.

....I went to the river and I stood on the shore. I stood in the twilight of the life I had before....

Just heard 'Elusive Butterfly' by Bob played on the top rated BBC Radio 2 show 'Sounds of the Sixties!' I'll keep tuned to the shows that Bob is scheduled to be on for interview and live performances and keep you all up to speed!

The Luminaire was packed to the rafters for Bob's first concert last night and he was given a fantastic reception when he arrived on stage. Bob asked me to post some details of the set, so he opened with
Roll the windows down
Gravity
Bottle of wine? (only song not written by Bob)
Wearing you
Perspective ( think we will hear more of this on the DVD )
Spilling over
Nameless Request
Sophias Lullaby
Someone to adore (written after his mother died) very beautiful
Then 3 songs with Richard Hawley
Cheryls goin' home
Truly Julies Blues
Elusive Butterfly
How the nights can fly
encore 1. Laughing Song
encore 2. Looking for you
I have to say the audience did not want him to go. It was a memorable evening and if any Brits read this and they are not going to Exeter, shame on you. Buy a ticket, get of your ***** and get there. I missed the last train but what the hell, I'd waited 41 years for this concert
To the couple from Norwich I hope you got Bob's autograph.
I will be supplying a link to my website where I will have some photos shortly.

Finally Bob is getting the acclaim, affection, and appreciation a wonderful artist and Poet deserves. May the rest of the concert sell out. Mary, my wife said. We should have gone to England for that concert from Las Vegas. Way to go Bob!!!! Ed and Mary Hackie

Bob and Jill Guerra have been working like crazy on this trip with the gigs, interviews and discussions with ACE Records etc, etc. They have managed a little time for fun, guests of Jarvis Cocker at the Meltdown festival and post gig party for instance. Personally I was thrilled that Bob and Jill were able to spend time on Sunday with my wife Sue and me. Not only did with have a super day but Bob even treated us to lunch at a rather good Indian restaurant (I recommended :-))
While we strolling Camden Town and its markets a few photos were taken...

(Mrs Martin Roberts, I only let Bob borrow her!)

Make up your own caption for this photo of Bob Lind and busker!

Good to hear from so many of you -- here on the board and via e-mail -- asking and remarking about the tour.
Jill, my manager is about to put her impressions up on the board. So stand by.
A particuarly enthusiastic thank you to John Duncan for posting the songs I did at the Luminaire. You should know, John, that one of the reviewers asked me for them and for the order I did them in. I never work with a set list. Nor do I remember the songs or the order afterward. So I just referred him to your post.

And Martin, thank you too for your posts here and for your wonderful hospitality, showing me around London with your charming wife.

Watch the board for continuing news regarding the trip.

"Make up your own caption"

Post by bob_32_116 »

"Make up your own caption for this photo of Bob Lind and busker!" OK, here goes...

Bob: "Hey, do you play requests?

Busker: "Name it."

Bob: "A Nameless Request".

Busker: "Name it, damn you!"
