Re: Lind interviewed on Australian radio (and the internet)

It just occurred to me Danny - is this radio station comfortable with the recording being uploaded to a public forum on the internet? Did you hint that this was a possibility? Quite possibly they may be completely cool with the idea, but you never know. I wouldn't want you or the Bob Lind forum to g...

Re: "Wandering" a.k.a. "Golden Apples of the Sun"

Reading what bob is quoted as saying about the writing of "Elusive Butterfly", I realise now that the two songs are basically about the same thing, i.e. the pursuit of something you feel you once had, have now lost, and chersih the hope of finding it again someday. I heard Bob's rendition ...

Re: Lind interviewed on Australian radio (and the internet)

Missed it live... Rang station & they promised to send me tape... Here's hoping... Never heard this radio station obviously, living this side of the country, and looks heavily oriented to country music anyway - not surprising considering it's Tamworth. I guess they don't do podcasts :( I...

Sufjan Stevens

This guy is my latest discovery, though he has been around for a while. Seems that he is part of the scene called "indie-folk", which seems to mean music that has a few things in common with folk, but is nothing like traditional folk, nor anything like the folk-rock of Bob Dylan, Bob Lind,...

Re: America's Oldies But Goodies, Episode 16

Yes, as Lind ruefully has pointed out on numerous occasions, there are some who prefer to stay rooted in the past and sigh wistfully for repeat after repeat of an established iconic song... I believe you can do both....never turn away from the great accomplishments of yesteryear. yet be open and sa...

Re: America's Oldies But Goodies, Episode 16

to be honest I found that interview a little disappointing. I suppose any publicity is good publicity, but it seems to be a program about people in music, so I'd think he should at least play a couple of songs from each of the people he interviews. We didn't even get EB in its entirety - and I dare ...

Re: Joan Baez

I have trouble picturing harmonies in that song. Have they recorded it as a duet? Yes, obviously there were some extra counterpoint notes added in addition to what was sung by the Fabs. This was the case with a number of the other songs too, such as "The Water Is Wide", which she performe...

Re: Joan Baez

I should have added that Baez and Crosby's rendition of Lennon/McCartney's "Blackbird" was one of the best moments. Boy can they harmonise.

Re: Joan Baez

I watched the DVD for the first time last night. Great concert. I have to say, though, that I don't think her voice was in quite as good shape as it was on the night of her perth concert about a year ago. No big deal, just one or two high notes where she seemed to struggle a little. David Crosby was...

Re: Joan Baez

^^ I think relations between Joan and BD cooled off quite some time ago.

It suits me that he's not on the record; it means that I don't have to skip any tracks. ;)

Joan Baez

I always liked her, but never picked up any albums by her, mainly because I think of her chiefly as an interpreter of other people's songs, and I tend to mostly favour singer/songwriters. Last year, however, she staged a rare concert appearance in Perth and I took the opportunity to go and hear her,...

Re: Proving Magellan incorrect...

From "trusty Morris Minor" to "shaky Chevrolet" to "Holden Colorado."

Come to think of it, Holden Colorado sounds like the sort of car you might expect to appear in a song by Bob Lind.

Re: Proving Magellan incorrect...

For me, it's "You, Lola, You!" Kind of predicated on a twist, you know. Not sure what you mean by that. As for the song, well it's amusing, not really a favourite on the album though. I thought you were going to call "Bottle of Wine" the unexpected track. I actually like that mo...

They're rather rare on this side of the planet, but I've seen them.

Really curious what people make of the "unexpected" track.
Which track is the "unexpected" one?

Re: Proving Magellan incorrect...

My copy arrived today. Magellan was correct!

It's a good thing it was well wrapped in thick cardboard and cellophane, because it rained heavily here and the other items in the letterbox got soaked. "A Break in the Rain" therefore seems appropriate as a closing track.
