I always liked her, but never picked up any albums by her, mainly because I think of her chiefly as an interpreter of other people's songs, and I tend to mostly favour singer/songwriters.
Last year, however, she staged a rare concert appearance in Perth and I took the opportunity to go and hear her, and irrespective of whether she sings her own songs or other people's, she certainly makes them come alive, and it was a wonderful concert.
Therefore, when I read that she had released a live album of her 75th birthday concert in New York City, I decided to shell out and get the package: two music discs plus the DVD. Check out the list of guest performers:
David Bromberg
Jackson Browne
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Judy Collins
David Crosby
Emmylou Harris
The Indigo Girls
Damien Rice
Paul Simon
Mavis Staples
Nano Stern
Richard Thompson
I don't often buy live albums, but I felt I had to have this one.
