Yes, obviously there were some extra counterpoint notes added in addition to what was sung by the Fabs. This was the case with a number of the other songs too, such as "The Water Is Wide", which she performed with Mary Chapin Carpenter and The Indigo Girls.

I have trouble picturing harmonies in that song. Have they recorded it as a duet?

I should have added that Baez and Crosby's rendition of Lennon/McCartney's "Blackbird" was one of the best moments. Boy can they harmonise.

Re Baez vs Crosby...

Not that I have any evidence, mind you...but maybe - just maybe - one steered clear of over indulgence in certain substances and one dived in headlong...?

Anyhoo, I enjoy/ed some of both artists works of arts...

There was always something earthy about him, unearthly about her.

I'm not saying she's a vampire, mind.

I watched the DVD for the first time last night.

Great concert. I have to say, though, that I don't think her voice was in quite as good shape as it was on the night of her perth concert about a year ago. No big deal, just one or two high notes where she seemed to struggle a little.

David Crosby was one of the early guests to appear, and he has not aged nearly as well as she has; she looks ten years younger than him!

^^ I think relations between Joan and BD cooled off quite some time ago.

It suits me that he's not on the record; it means that I don't have to skip any tracks. ;)

impressive...

One notable absentee...the bloke who's eyes "were bluer than robin's eggs"

but then, "Love Is Just A Four Letter Word".

Such a wide range in contemporary music, as Lind himself has said - it's not all folk, it's partly acoustic, it's music...

I always liked her, but never picked up any albums by her, mainly because I think of her chiefly as an interpreter of other people's songs, and I tend to mostly favour singer/songwriters.

Last year, however, she staged a rare concert appearance in Perth and I took the opportunity to go and hear her, and irrespective of whether she sings her own songs or other people's, she certainly makes them come alive, and it was a wonderful concert.

Therefore, when I read that she had released a live album of her 75th birthday concert in New York City, I decided to shell out and get the package: two music discs plus the DVD. Check out the list of guest performers:

David Bromberg
Jackson Browne
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Judy Collins
David Crosby
Emmylou Harris
The Indigo Girls
Damien Rice
Paul Simon
Mavis Staples
Nano Stern
Richard Thompson

I don't often buy live albums, but I felt I had to have this one.
