Re: Zip

I'm a fan of tangents and meandering parenthetical asides - too much of one, really. So, personally, I may have an equal tendency to overcorrect and get narrow.

But this site, like most of life, is assembled by committee. I'll run this by the other members of the cabal and see what happens. I like the idea of spreading out a little. And, of course, zip. I prefer slack, but I'll take zip any day.

Zip

I have decided that this site needs more zip.

I find I am visiting less often, simply because so often when I do there are very few new posts to read. Apart from Danny's travelogue, which can always be relied on...

Then I think maybe I should post something - but what? I've already told everyone my favourite Lind songs, there appears to be nothing in the wind re new music from the man... there is no way I can get to his concerts...

I had a think about this, and I have decided that perhaps the board is too exclusively focused on Bob Lind - which is natural I suppose, and is fine when you first join the group, Bob Lind is the reason for coming here in the first place - but sometimes I can't think of anything new to say that really fits into either of the two general discussion categories. A few more categories might help.

Have a look for example at this site:
http://www.porcupinetreeforum.com
Now I am not suggesting we copy all those categories here. Porcupine Tree have a somewhat larger current fanbase than Bob Lind (though they are still not exactly a household name), and the sheer number of posts per day lends itself to having lots of sub-forums (or sub-fora). Still I think a couple more here would not hurt. For example, since we are all inspired by Bob Lind, I am guessing that there is a fair bit of overlap in our musical tastes; most of us are probably into at least some other music of the folk-rock genre for example.

What about a structure something like the following:

Message board
.... Discussion
........Bob Lind
............ News and Events
............ Lind's Music
............ Other Lind-related (this can include talking about the novel for example)
........ Other music/other artists
........ General Discussion (anything not specifically music-related, like books, movies, travels etc.)
.... About the Forum
........ Forum Problems (a.k.a. technical help)
........ Forum Suggestions

Nothing too ambitious as you can see, but this might liven things up - maybe Mr Admin can have a think about it. :)
