I think you've just made all the Americans here in ClearChannel-land very jealous.

DJs here no longer have that kind of influence - playlists all come from a centralized source. It's made the music radio world all rather homogeneous.

Welcome to the board. Good to have you with us. I was just over there in June. What a fantastic tour.

Always glad to hear from an "Elusive Butterfly" fan. I'll tell you what I tell all the newbees: Hope you're aware of the new songs too.

See the Playlist and the CD Reviews Pages.

Stay with us.

Yers,

I know what you mean. However this particular station specialises in older music and actively encourages listeners to request music to build up the library. Brilliant

The above was from me. (You all probably guessed.)

It's a little while since I visited this site, I forgot that unlike most sites I need to log in each time, it doesn't "Remember me".

Having got a taste in recent years of the European music and radio scene, count me as one of those very jealous Americans. Radio in the States is too painful to listen to. In large part because of that, I had no idea that Bob Lind had newer music. Were it not for Internet radio, I'd probably go nuts.

But I'm digressing from the reason I came here, was to shout out a large "thank you" to Bob Lind for "Elusive Butterfly," one of the musical touchstones of my youth.

A great song lasts forever.

g.

I though it's time to crank up this Topic again. I just needed a "fix" of Bob on You Tube and watched, again, the various versions there of Bob doing ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY.

What hit me though, was the heavy number of text comments about Bob and EB that have been posted on You Tube ...over 200 and 99.99% positive ...What more, dozens posted in last couple of months. It's good to see that, so while some of us might not be too active lately on this message board. (Danny excepted) .. lots of positive stuff about Bob is growing elsewhere on the net.

If you haven't read thru the the latest "You Tube" comments - go look now !

Surely it's only a matter of time before this kind of Internet publicity gets people interested in seeking out other Lind material, and generates the requisite pressure for Bob to bring out another studio album?

Yep - I reckon it's the combination of knowledge of Lind's music (EB, etc.), Lind's new music/tours, posts like ours, word-of-mouth, - and common-bloody-sense...!

(unlike Gollum, we must not keep "the precious" secret - nor must we keep it for ourselves alone..)

...meanwhile, Lind sails on...

I played for the Palm Beach Poetry Festival here in Delray Beach, Florida. Their concept was background jazz but I saw the chance to do something different, singer-songwriter material that I've learned over the years but never get to use. They okayed my suggestion.

Blessedly the budget ran to a duo so I hired a drummer-percussionist instead of a guitarist, to avoid the dreaded drum machine. (I play keyboard and sing). The drummer brought his conga and a couple of toys in addition to his kit and it all worked.

I knew from the start I wanted to do Elusive Butterfly for this crowd, poets from the English-speaking world and festival attendees from wherever. I loved the song from the moment I first heard it, probably on WQAM 560 in Miami when it first came out. I wrote a lead sheet years ago but can't remember why, or I ever even used it. Anyway, we did it for the poetry folks and the smiles all around were most gratifying. We did a bunch of other stuff I *never* get to use, too, like Joni Mitchell's Circle Game and Simon and Garfunkel's Punky's Dilemma. Thank goodness for the occasional sophisticated audience, one can make up for any number of the other kind.

Thanks for a wonderful song, Bob. Best of luck with the Boca Raton gig February 6 and thanks for the reminder, maybe I can get there and meet you, would be great.

PS I sat down with two like-minded men yesterday for guitar and fellowship. (Guitar is my amateur instrument and something I have sorely missed. This was my first get-together of this kind in 20 years or more, but we will be meeting regularly now.) We took turns calling tunes, and I pulled out Butterfly. They loved it, and our host's wife sang right along, said it had been years since she'd heard it. Radio may be a dead issue but our hearts can take us places in our dreams, if we only let them.

Hi Tedk1, Welcome to the board. Good to have you with us.
Glad the poetry festival went well.
If you make it to the show on the sixth, come back and say hi afterward.

I grew up (in a manner of speaking) in NJ in the 60s, well within the sounds of NYC radio, even the FM stations that, for a while, were simply magical. I can't remember when I first heard "Elusive Butterfly", but I can tell you that that first time that I did hear it, I was drawn to it as something that seemed to take me inside myself. I suppose that AM did carry your song for a while, but I'm trying to remember who the NYC DJ was who used your song as his theme song, opening his show with it every day. I listened to the show, at least the beginning of it, just to hear "EB" every day. And even now, when I play it off my own collection, or occasionally hear it on an oldies station, it still calms and comforts me, taking me back to days far more innocent and easy.

But can you set my mind at rest - who was that DJ, and what station was he on?

Thanks for a wonderfully unique song,
MP1953

Hi, I'm an eighteen year-old who's in high school. I just wanted to say that coming from my standpoint (as from a much younger generation) there are people from my generation who appreciate the music from the older generation (the gerneration of my parents). "Elusive Butterfly" is an example of one of the great songs from this older generation. It's a wonderful song and whenever I listen to it and similar songs, I wish I was part of that generation and lived in those great times of the '60s.

Thank you Mr. Lind for the song!

~A younger fan
